Commercial Auto Insurance

Understanding liability and physical damage limits

Commercial auto insurance includes liability coverage for damage you cause to others and physical damage coverage for your own vehicles. Choosing the right limits protects your business from serious financial exposure.

Commercial auto liability is typically written with combined single limits (CSL), meaning one limit applies to all bodily injury and property damage from a single accident. This is simpler than split limits and often provides better protection.

Physical damage coverage (comprehensive and collision) is limited to the actual cash value or stated amount of your vehicles. Deductibles apply to physical damage claims, reducing your premium but increasing out-of-pocket costs for claims.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage protects you when at-fault drivers lack adequate insurance. This coverage is especially important for businesses whose employees spend significant time on the road.
